If you’re visiting the Big Apple, you have to make sure you see one of the current Broadway shows in New York. It’s the perfect way to spend an evening in New York or even an afternoon while visiting Manhattan.
Whenever we visit New York, we always book at least one Broadway Performances for new shows we haven’t seen. Last time, it was Moulin Rouge! The musical (which was amazing, by the way), next time we visit, I think we’ll see again and Juliet. The music is incredible.
Anyway, I’m rambling, but I wanted to share some of the current Broadway shows that you really don’t want to miss once you get to New York. This way, you can book your tickets through individual theaters and be sure to get the seats you want before reaching the city.
Trust me, we’ve tried to ‘wing it’ before and only come forward for late availability. Yes, you can get lucky; But we always think it’s better to book the best shows, with the best seats, before coming to the Big Apple. That way, there’s no stress on the day and you know your ticket is in your pocket—or in your smartphone.
So, take a look at some of the current Broadway shows in New York that you won’t want to miss.
1.) Aladdin
Aladdin brings the undeniable magic of Disney to the Broadway stage. If you are familiar with the story of Aladdin, you will know that it focuses on the love story between Aladdin and Princess Jasmine. It’s still one of my favorite shows on Broadway, even though Jafar is something of a terror!
Not only that, but the set is just mind-blowing. They have truly brought the magic of the film alive to the flying carpet…

2.) A Beautiful Voice: The Neil Diamond Musical
If you’re a fan of Neil Diamond’s music, then you’ll want to check out A Beautiful Noise. It is one of New York’s current Broadway shows that has taken the city by storm.
A Beautiful Noise tells Diamond’s story through many of his hit songs, but don’t stress if you’re not familiar with his music, this show will make you a fan in no time! Be sure to book tickets before arriving, as they can sell out quickly at peak times.
3.) Chicago
Chicago has become an institution as the longest-running musical currently on Broadway; It is an amazing show and a must watch.
Following the life of Roxie Hart in 1920’s Chicago, the musical takes you on a journey of love, hate and lust through showtunes that is so captivating.
Be sure to listen to ‘All That Jazz’ and ‘Razzle Dazzle’. The songs are amazing.

4.) Headstown
Headstown is a Broadway show that has really made a name for itself. Influenced by Greek mythology and the city of New Orleans, Hadston takes you on an action-packed journey through jazz and blues.
This is a unique Broadway show and one you don’t want to miss when visiting New York.
5.) Back to the Future: The Musical
Adapted from one of the most iconic films of the 80s, Back to the Future: The Musical takes you on a journey with Marty McFly and Doc Brown to find a way ‘back to the future’.
Now, I sometimes worry that shows won’t live up to the film they’re based on, especially with an iconic film like Back to the Future. Thankfully, this musical is quite entertaining, action-packed and worth watching.
Oh, and keep your eyes peeled for matinee performances as these are slightly cheaper than going at peak times.

6.) Hamilton
We absolutely loved Hamilton, and we’re not the only ones! In fact, it is one of the most popular shows in the world.
Following the life of Alexander Hamilton, it details the founding of the United States and features many powerful songs that have become known around the world.

7.) MJ The Musical
Surely you like Michael Jackson’s music? Then you’ll want to experience MJ The Musical, a nostalgic journey through the King of Pop’s performances that will have you dancing in your seat.
MJ The Musical takes you on an incredible journey from his early years as part of the Jackson 5 to his meteoric success and his biggest hits in recent decades.
It’s a lot of fun, especially if you’re visiting New York with friends. Trust me, you’ll be buzzing within minutes of sitting down.

8.) Outsiders
Following the original novel’s storytelling, The Outsiders is a powerful Broadway show that is deeply emotional. It’s a coming-of-age story about identity and heartbreak, with lead characters Ponyboy Curtis and Johnny Cade.
It’s a perfect show to see if you’re interested in dramatic theater, and it’s well worth a visit while visiting New York.
