Frontier Airlines continues to make major changes to its network.

This time, the Denver-based carrier cut eight domestic routes, as first seen in the Cirium schedule and later confirmed by a carrier spokesperson. The cuts are far-reaching and affect several airports across the country.

You’ll find a map of the affected routes below, but highlights include two flights cut from El Paso, Texas, and two flights from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

In fact, El Paso’s routes only started a few weeks ago in May, and now they are being cut effective immediately. After suspending flights from Ontario, California and San Diego to El Paso, Frontier will only serve the Texas city from Denver and Las Vegas.

The frontiers cut does not represent a market exit for the airline, but the San Juan shortfalls are notable due to the fact that the airline operates a base in the Puerto Rican capital.

That said, San Juan has recently become the latest battleground for airline dominance. JetBlue Airways, which historically operates a focus city in San Juan, recently announced it would double service there, as it has ceded market share in recent years to other carriers that recently entered the market, including Frontier and its ultra- Consists of Law. In recent months, Frontier has been shifting from a purely leisure-focused network strategy to one that touches several major metropolitan centers, most notably New York. In fact, the airline announced in March that New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) added two routes, and it followed in August with a third route from JFK to Atlanta.

This focus has come at a head-on with the major carriers at their megahubs as cities like Orlando and Las Vegas have apparently added a lot of capacity.

Earlier this year, Frontier added 54 new routes and added 17 more a few weeks later. It fell by 16 in February, followed by a further decline of 14 in March.

For its part, Frontier declined to comment on the route changes, with spokeswoman Jane de la Cruz saying briefly that “they are at least seasonally closed.”
