Whether you stay at IHG hotels and resorts a few times a year or weekly, you should seriously consider getting — and keeping — the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card.
The card offers an attractive sign-up bonus to attract new cardholders. However, it’s one of my favorite cards to hold long-term because of its many benefits, which can easily offset its modest $99 annual fee.
Why I love my IHG One Rewards Premier Card and plan to keep it in my wallet for the foreseeable future.
Welcome offer
Based on TPG’s July 2024 valuation, five free nights are worth about $1,500. However, since the IHG One Rewards loyalty program uses dynamic award pricing, the number of properties you can redeem your free nights at will vary.
However, note that the IHG One Rewards Premier Card and its sign-up bonus are not available if you are:
- Current card member of any individual IHG One Rewards credit card
- Previous cardmember of any individual IHG One Rewards credit card and received a new cardmember bonus within the last 24 months
The Chase 5/24 rule may prevent you from being approved for a new Chase credit card. See our post on calculating your 5/24 standings for more information.

Anniversary night
Even if you don’t spend many nights at the hotel or opt for a separate hotel loyalty program The IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card may still be worth its $99 annual fee. Finally, most cardholders can get more than $99 worth of value per year from one benefit: the IHG anniversary night certificate you get after each account anniversary.
You can use the Anniversary Night for one night with a redemption rate of 40,000 points or less. But you can also add-on points from your IHG One Rewards account to redeem for nights worth more than 40,000 points. You must redeem your night and complete your stay within 12 months of the issue date of the free night.
I’ve gotten good value from my anniversary nights over the years. But as long as you’re getting more than $99 worth of value from your Anniversary Night Certificate each year, the IHG One Rewards Premier Card is worth keeping for the long haul — especially once you consider the card’s other benefits.

Fourth-night reward benefit
Let’s see an example. For the following stays, I will pay zero points for my fourth night because of the IHG fourth-night reward benefit.
This benefit also works to last longer. For example, here’s an eight-night stay, during which my fourth and eighth nights will cost zero points after the fourth night rewards benefit.
Every fourth night will cost zero points, regardless of whether these nights are the cheapest or most expensive of your stay. You can use this benefit unlimited number of times. So, if you frequently redeem IHG points for stays of four nights or more, this card benefit will save you a significant amount of points.
