As a groundbreaking initiative to enhance event experiences, BMA House has launched the “History of BMA House Tour”. This unique offering enriches the evening gathering by immersing the attendees in the rich historical significance of the venue. Our historic London venue serves as a stunning backdrop for a variety of events including conferences, parties, weddings, awards ceremonies and meetings. Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1911, this Grade II listed building has been the home of the British Medical Association since 1925. Recently updated with state-of-the-art AV facilities, our spaces provide an inspiring environment for guests to meet, work. and mix. In addition, BMA House boasts two large outdoor areas – an impressive courtyard and a tranquil botanical garden – a rare find in such a central location. Located in the heart of London, BMA House offers excellent transport links and a variety of spaces including the Courtyard, Garden, Great Hall and Prince’s Room, not to mention the building’s stunning façade, which provides a stunning backdrop.
The integration of historical tours, delivered by the BMA Archives team into events – particularly evening receptions and dinners – can significantly increase attendee engagement, enrich learning opportunities and potentially increase attendance due to a unique value-added experience.
The tour is available in two tailored formats to suit different event sizes and preferences:
- An intimate walking tour: For groups of less than 50, this 30-minute tour guides guests through important sites such as the Great Hall, Snow and Paget Rooms, Courtyard and Garden, culminating with a visit to the Prince’s Room, which has significant Royal attachments. .
- Presentation to large groups: For larger groups, a 15-minute presentation covers the past of BMA House and its notable figures, including its association with icons such as Charles Dickens and members of the royal family. This presentation can be customized to align with the specific event space being used.
The “History of BMA House Tour” is designed to make each event extraordinary by providing guests with a deeper connection to the venue’s illustrious past. This opportunity to learn about such a historically significant site will not only enhance the event experience but also inspire greater engagement and attendance.
As an award-winning, sustainable venue, BMA House is committed to helping clients understand the carbon emissions associated with their events as they transition to net zero. In collaboration with Planet Mark, BMA House now offers a complimentary carbon calculator tool designed to estimate the emissions associated with hosting an event at a venue.
This tour is designed to take place before guests sit down to dinner or during a drinks reception.
Royal visits published in Tours:
- BMA House inaugurated by King George V on 13 July 1925.
- 1959 visit of the Duke of Edinburgh to his installation as President of the BMA.
- During the 1982 visit of the Prince of Wales (now King Charles) to his election as President of the BMA on its 150th anniversary.
- 1986 Opening of Princess Diana’s new library (today’s Great Hall).
- The newly renovated Great Hall was unveiled in 2008 by the Princess Royal.
