Stay at Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor Siem Reap

Our first stop was Iconic Raffles Grand Hotel d’Anchor Originally built in 1932, during the French colonial period, in Siem Reap, it quickly became a symbol of elegance and sophistication throughout the region. The architecture, elegant facade and serene lobby reflect the colonial style of the time, seamlessly blending Khmer and French influences. Cambodia has faced numerous challenges throughout its troubled history, including periods of closure during political unrest and conflict. However, it was meticulously restored and reopened in 1997, marking a new era of luxury hospitality in Cambodia. This level of luxury was further enhanced by a major renovation project that coincided with another enforcement shutdown, this time during a global pandemic. With brand new rooms and suites, this luxury hotel set new standards when it was once again presented to esteemed guests in 2022, the perfect time to celebrate an incredible 90 years in the kingdom.

Dining in 1932 is not to be missed when staying at Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor Siem Reap. This elegant fine dining restaurant offers a culinary journey while choosing from one of four, each paying homage to a selected decade of rich and diverse Cambodian history. Each of these fine dining tasting menus features local seasonal produce, none more so than the completely plant-based ‘Grand Renaissance’ menu, which celebrates the 1950s, the decade during which Cambodia gained independence. Our meal was an exquisite blend of culinary creativity and Khmer flavor, traditional Cambodian dishes adapted to the environment and made vegan. The trio of smoky eggplant, light, fresh and re-imagined ‘Nom Bun Chok’, rich and delightfully creamy Amok, and palm sugar rich ‘Nom Pla Ai’ took us each on a delightful journey atop our Khmer rice cakes.
