A nationwide hotel strike is now affecting operations at two Hilton-affiliated properties in Boston. This time the strike is indefinite.

About 600 Boston hotel workers are now on strike Hilton Boston Park Plaza And Hilton Boston Logan Airport. Park Plaza, one of the city’s largest and most historic properties, is close to major attractions such as Boston Common and Newbury Street, the city’s retail hub. Hilton Boston Logan Airport generates most of its business from connecting passengers as well as flight crew due to its proximity to all terminals at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).

Previous hotel strikes in Boston had lasted only two or three days; They were employed by members of the Unite Here Hospitality Labor Group in various hotels across the city. However, this latest wave of strikes is set to last until a new labor agreement is reached. Strikers include housekeepers, front desk agents, cooks, dishwashers, servers, bartenders, bellhops and door attendants.

“I’m fighting for a raise because I currently have two jobs. I can’t do one at the same time. I work 70 hours a week,” said Theresa Fiorino, a room service cashier at the Hilton Boston Logan Airport for 29 years. said a prepared statement provided by Unite Here. “Going on strike will hurt me financially, but I am willing to make that sacrifice together with my colleagues. We are a team, and we are ready to show hotel companies that we mean business.”

Other US cities such as Honolulu, San Diego and San Francisco are currently on strike. Across the country, local United Here chapters representing hotel workers are negotiating for higher wages, better working conditions and more employee protections. Many hotel labor contracts expired on August 31.

A spokeswoman for major brands such as Hilton and Hyatt previously told TPG there were contingency plans in place to minimize disruptions during the strike. But Unite Here warns guests that services will be suspended while hotels operate with skeleton staffing.

Picket lines will run 24 hours a day outside affected hotels, and hotels may suspend some services while operating with limited staff members.
