After leaving the amazing ancient lost kingdom of Petra, our next stop in Jordan will be at Wadi Rum, a desert so famous you’ve probably seen it even if you didn’t know it at the time.

Many movies have been shot here, such as Dune, The Martian, Aladdin, Prometheus and even some Star Wars movies.

It’s easy to see why because this place is incredibly beautiful and unlike anywhere else you’ve ever seen or visited.

To get from Petra to Wadi Rum, we hired a taxi that took us to the desert entrance and dropped us off at the car park, where we met up with our camp driver who would take us to the camp. .

We then jumped into the back of this truck with our luggage where we were sandblasted as we drove into the desert.

We had a choice as to whether we wanted to stay inside the car or outside, but honestly, the absolutely beautiful views of the desert made us choose to sit outside and we would do it again.

It is very valuable.

So, first things first – let’s set up camp. And I mean this kind of literally.

Hotel options in Wadi Rum are relatively limited, but in a nice way.

You won’t find any giant towering blocks here.

Instead, some of the best places to stay in Wadi Rum are luxury camp tents where you have fully functional bathrooms with air conditioning, toilets, showers and hot water.

It’s amazing.

It leans into the natural environment you are in while still managing to keep you comfortable the entire time.

We stayed Yado Aicha Luxury Camp In which we would definitely recommend seating yourself.

It is set at the foot of some incredibly high mountains and the view is simply amazing.

The backdrop is spectacular, the view of the mountains in front is stunning, just what you are looking for when you picture a desert stay.

Yado Aicha Luxury Camp was still relatively new when we visited but was already very attractive.

They also planned to install things like swimming pool and so on.

I just remember narrowing down our list to like 3 camps and this one kept calling us, so why did we book it and as soon as we arrived, I knew we made the right decision.

Food was also included so the first thing we did as soon as we arrived was drop off our stuff and go get lunch.

After lunch, we tried to decide on plans for the next two days, all of which we managed to do through our hotel.

As the sun was about to set our hosts recommended that we ride camels into the desert and that is what we did.

We also went out that night for a different experience but I will tell you more about that in this post.

Anyway, so, not long ago, a local guide showed up with a camel and riding a camel is nothing like riding a horse.

For starters, they are too tall and they actually sit down to mount them before pulling you up.

If you’re going to fall off a camel, this is the point when it’s likely to happen.

And so we set off into the desert.

Now it’s worth noting that you never move at a particularly fast pace.

Your camels aren’t running anywhere so it all looks smooth and orderly.

You then stop for a break to feed the camels and take in your first sunset in the desert.

And that sunset is just magnificent.

Like absolutely gorgeous.

After sunset, we returned Yado Aicha Luxury Camp Just in time for dinner which is hosted in this huge dome.

We then headed out for tea by the fireplace before getting ready for our night time desert activity.

Now being a desert with very little light pollution, Wadi Rum is one of the best places to view the night sky.

And so we decided to do it with our hotel guide.

It’s all black and walking around in all that darkness in the desert is very real.

Our hosts had torches with them so you don’t have to worry if you’re not that keen on walking around in the dark.

After a while, when we stopped to look up at the night sky and got to do some stargazing, the torches came in handy for these photos.

I can’t take any credit for that though as the idea actually came from our guides who clocked our cameras and suggested playing with the lights.

With that, we headed back to our tent for a well-earned rest.

When we came here we just assumed we wouldn’t do that much on the first day but it somehow managed to provide enough to start falling in love with the amazingly beautiful and amazing Wadi Rum.

The whole day excited us to explore all the main sites of Wadi Rum which we will do tomorrow with the driver.

We will share all about it here in this post.
