A massive new Norwegian Cruise Line ship scheduled to debut in 2026 finally has a name — and a future home.
Currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy, the 3,550-passenger ship will be called the Norwegian Luna, Norwegian President David Herrera announced late Tuesday during a preview event near the shipyard.
It will make weekly sailings to the Caribbean out of Miami starting April 4, 2026, he added.
At 156,300 gross tons, the Norwegian Luna will be the fifth largest Norwegian ship ever built.
She is a sister ship to Norwegian Aqua, another new Norwegian ship under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Margera that is scheduled to debut in March 2025.
Norwegian Luna and Norwegian Aqua are both larger versions of Norwegian’s last two new ships, Norwegian Viva and Norwegian Prima, boasting new and expanded venues.

Among the most notable new attractions on both Norwegian Aqua and Norwegian Luna: an epic, first-of-its-kind hybrid rollercoaster and waterslide ride called the Aqua Slidecoaster.
“This will be one of the features that people will be talking about the most,” Herrera said during the preview event, which included glimpses of Norwegian Aqua and Norwegian Luna under construction.

During the preview, several dozen travel agency leaders and members of the media got their first glimpse of the massive water attraction taking shape on top of Norwegian Aqua.
Circling around the ship’s superstructure, it was a spectacular sight with twin blue and aquamarine slides that rose three decks high in places. The attraction, which uses magnets to propel riders on floats at thrill ride-like speeds, is believed to be the longest and fastest water attraction ever on a cruise ship.
Like Norwegian Aqua, Norwegian Luna will also feature a digital sports complex, Glow Court, which is an interactive play zone by day but turns into a nightclub at night.
As part of the event, Norwegian announced that Norwegian Luna will begin its inaugural Caribbean season on April 4, 2026, with two seven-night Western Caribbean sailings from Miami to Roatan, Honduras; Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico; and Harvest Caye, Belize, the brand’s resort-style destination.
Norwegian Luna will then switch to a series of seven-night Eastern Caribbean voyages out of Miami that call at Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; Tortola, British Virgin Islands; St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands; and Great Stirrup Cay, a Norwegian private island in the Bahamas.
Norwegian Herrera also revealed that the ship’s hull art will be designed by California-based street artist Elle, who was also in Italy for the event and to see the Norwegian Luna under construction.
“It’s an incredible honor,” Elle said after being introduced to the attendees. “To be able to see this amazing ship live is bigger than my wildest dreams.”
