In London, it’s out with the old and in with the new. One of TPG’s best new hotels of 2021, Mondrian Shoreditch has been officially re-branded as Virgin Hotels London-Shoreditch.

You may be shocked to learn that England’s capital was void of one of Sir Richard Branson’s iconic hotels – until now, that is.

But don’t expect a full-fledged Virgin Hotels experience just yet. Although officially renamed as of Thursday, the hotel is actually beginning a “gradual transition” to bring the former Mondrian property fully into the Virgin World.

Virgin Hotels

Virgin Hotels London-Shoreditch is the popular lifestyle hotel brand’s eighth location (following success in cities such as New York, Las Vegas, Nashville and New Orleans) and the third UK property in Scotland, alongside Edinburgh and Glasgow.

“The UK is where the Virgin story began, so it’s incredibly exciting to have another foothold in the city,” Virgin founder Sir Richard Branson said. A sentence. “Virgin Hotels were built to do things differently, and Virgin Hotels London-Shoreditch is no exception.”

Set in trendy Shoreditch, the hotel has 120 rooms and suites, or “chambers,” as Virgin Hotels calls the rooms. For now, it’s essentially untouched from the Mondrian days of the Chambero Hotel, with white brick walls, beds with large headboards, beautiful night-lights, wide banks of windows and an overall more elevated aesthetic compared to the playful rooms of Virgin Hotels at other properties.

Virgin’s signature multifunction bed, which elsewhere has a backrest on one side of the bottom, is noticeably missing from the chamber, along with the brand’s signature red Smeg minifridge. But, according to a statement from Virgin Hotels, those “custom-designed patented” beds are on the way, along with Sir Richard’s flat (think of it as a presidential suite) and the brand’s Lucy app.

Virgin Hotels

Another Virgin Hotels staple, the Commons Club, a lobby bar and cafe, will be introduced as a pop-up experience before being transformed “into an exciting new space later in the year”.

Virgin Hotels

Although much is changing, it seems that Virgin Hotels is preserving much of what was already in operation, including the Spanish restaurant BiBo by renowned chef Dani Garcia, Marlin’s Mediterranean restaurant, and Blue Marlin Ibiza London, a membership club that offers guests and are open to facilities. A rooftop pool and lounge, a Mediterranean restaurant, workspace, a gym and spa.
