The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released its global passenger demand figures for June 2024, showing significant growth:

  • Total Demand: Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPK) increased by 9.1% compared to June 2023. Available Seat Kilometers (ASK) saw an increase of 8.5% year-on-year. The load factor for June was 85.0%, an increase of 0.5 percentage points over the previous year.
  • International Demand: International demand grew by 12.3% from June 2023. Capacity increased by 12.7% year-on-year, with load factor reaching 85.0%, down slightly by 0.3 percentage points compared to June 2023.
  • Domestic demand: Domestic travel demand increased by 4.3% compared to June 2023. Capacity increased by 2.1% year-on-year, with load factor increasing by 1.7 percentage points to 85.0% from June 2023.

“Demand increased across all regions as the peak northern summer travel season began in June. And with demand lagging behind overall capacity growth, we saw a very strong average load factor of 85% in both domestic and international operations. Managing such high load factors is both good and challenging. It makes it all the more important for all stakeholders to operate with the same level of efficiency to minimize delays and get travelers to their destinations on time.” said Willie Walsh, Director General of IATA.

“The entire aviation industry is proud of its continued role in supporting the Olympic story by bringing together athletes, fans and officials as the Olympic Games unfold in Paris. It is a great reminder of how aviation transforms our very large world into a global community. We wish France every success as host of the Games and cheer on all the athletes who will be putting in their best human effort in the coming weeks. Walsh said.
