The 2024 Shanghai International Sister Cities Youth Camp, organized by the Putuo District Education Bureau, was held in Shanghai from July 3 to 16. This year’s theme, “Communication, Cooperation, Friendship and Understanding” drew 89 youth participants from 16 different countries. .
The camp offered a variety of activities, including traditional Chinese culture lessons, tours of iconic Shanghai landmarks and cultural sites, days immersed in local Shanghainese life, and city design and construction projects.
Participants engage in cultural courses such as martial arts, porcelain carving, New Year paintings, tie-dyeing, lantern making and wearing traditional Chinese Hanfu, gaining an appreciation of Chinese cultural heritage.
They explored urban landmarks such as the Oriental Pearl Tower, Huangpu River, Yu Garden and Suzhou Creek Park, experiencing the vibrant culture and development of Shanghai.
The program also includes visits to universities, the Shanghai Museum and the Shanghai Astronomy Museum. Attendees participated in youth forums, fun activities and hands-on exercises at Oriental Land.
Ireland’s Brian O’Carroll commented that he would return home with an appreciation for Chinese culture, cuisine and especially the hospitality of the Shanghainese, whose kindness left a lasting impression on him.
Sarah, from Marseille, France, said she couldn’t wait to share this amazing experience with her relatives and friends when she returned to France. “I want to tell them that visiting China, especially Shanghai, is a scenic journey like a poem.” she said.
