Shanghai’s first “Shanghai Summer” International Consumption Season kicked off on July 6, welcoming global visitors to enjoy a vibrant summer with a variety of events and activities.

On July 6, the premiere of the “Shanghai Summer” international consumption season was unveiled, inviting visitors from around the world to experience an extraordinary summer at the Bund.

Shanghai serves as the primary entry point for global tourists, with 2.035 million foreign arrivals registered through its ports from January to June this year, a 2.8-fold increase over the previous year. Shanghai currently ranks second globally for density of international retailers, with 98% presence of leading global brands. This season promises a plethora of summer activities and premium experiences for domestic and international visitors.

A slate of exciting events

Extending through mid-October, “Shanghai Summer” will host over one hundred prestigious events, ranging from concerts and music festivals to cultural exhibitions, art exhibitions and notable sports competitions. Highlights of the season include:

• Inauguration of Shanghai International Light Festival
• ATP 1000 Shanghai Masters

A global partnership enhances the celebration

Eight international partners such as China Mobile, China Telecom, China Eastern Airlines, Balian Group, Xinjiang International, Seatrip, Marriott International and Cathay Pacific are introducing thoughtful initiatives to enhance the visitor experience. For example, China Mobile and China Telecom offer temporary internet cards, while China Eastern Airlines offers multiple-trip flight passes and discount fares. In addition, Belian Group is issuing gift cards and shopping vouchers and Jinjiang International Group offers significant discounts at their Shanghai locations.

Introducing the Shanghai Summer Ambassadors

On the day of the summer solstice, Shanghai launched a global search for a “Shanghai Summer Ambassador”. An inaugural group, including travel photography blogger Scott from England, will explore and describe Shanghai’s unique summer stories.
