How to book a bluegreen vacation through Choice

Booking a BlueGreen vacation property through Choice Hotels is similar to booking a hotel. You start on the standard search page and search for an investment in one of the destinations with BlueGreen Vacation Properties. Alternatively, you can start on a specific property’s Choice Hotels landing page.

I expect that most travelers who want to book a BlueGreen vacation property through Choice will have a specific property. I recommend starting with that property’s landing page (you can click on each property List of Bluegreen vacation properties on the Choice Hotels webpage if you prefer).

Ideally, you’ll be able to click through the calendar for a specific property to see which dates are available for booking with cash or points. But I have found that these calendars often show no availability even when there is availability. Instead, check all the dates you might be interested in booking.

Unfortunately, you can only redeem Choice Points for stays within the next 100 days and book the paid rate for stays within the next 50 weeks. As such, it may be difficult to find availability at some properties on some dates.

Many bluegreen vacation properties also have unpublished minimum stay requirements when you book through Choice Hotels, so try to find different length stays if your travel plans are flexible. Based on my research, many properties require you to stay at least two nights.

Once you’ve found a BlueGreen Vacations property you want to book that’s available through Choice Hotels, check out the room types you can book with points. You can find multi-bedroom units that can sleep a large family (or group of friends) for the same point cost as a studio suite or one-bedroom unit.

It is also worth checking the rates paid, which are reasonable for some properties on some dates. Consider the following two-night stay at Bluegreen Vacation Fountains, an Ascend Resort Collection.

You can redeem 30,000 points per night for any room type. But you could pay a total of $357 for a two-bedroom unit with two single beds and a queen bed, or $374 for a two-bedroom unit with a king bed and two double beds, giving you a redemption rate of 0.59 to 0.62 cents per point. Choice points are worth 0.6 cents per point at TPG’s July 2024 valuation, so if you don’t have a lot of Choice points and can redeem Choice points at a higher rate in general, you may want to book a paid stay.

According to the release, the award rate is the same for every BlueGreen Vacation property you can book through Choice Hotels. Specifically, Sunday through Thursday nights are worth 25,000 points, and Friday and Saturday nights are worth 30,000 points through September 15. Then, from September 16 to November 30, each night costs 20,000 points per room. Choice has not yet announced reward rates for stays from December 1.

You can earn Choice Points through credit cards such as Choice Privilege® MasterCard® ($0 annual fee; see Rates and Fees) or Choose Choice Privileges® Mastercard® (See $95 annual fee, rates and fees). You can also purchase Choice Points or transfer points from American Express Membership Rewards, Capital One Miles, CitiThankYou Points, and Wells Fargo Rewards.

But — especially if you don’t need a multi-bedroom unit and aren’t traveling on peak dates — you can come out ahead by booking a paid rate and earning Choice Points on your BlueGreen Vacations stay. Be sure to enroll in any current Choice Privilege promotions before your stay to maximize your earnings.

Bottom line

Even if you’re not interested in purchasing a BlueGreen Vacations timeshare, you can still enjoy staying at one of its resorts. Fortunately, Choice Hotels’ partnership with BlueGreen Vacations allows its members to book stays through Choice Hotels with Choice Points.

You will not be required to attend a timeshare presentation when you redeem Choice Points or book a standard rate through Choice Hotels. But you’ll occasionally see promotions offering discounted rates that require attendance at a timeshare presentation — so be sure to read the fine print of the rate you’re booking if you don’t want to spend part of your vacation at a timeshare presentation. .
