United Airlines has launched a new round of Mile Play promotions, which award bonus miles to targeted members after completing certain tasks. Now is a good time to check your eligibility and register — even if you’re unsure about your upcoming travel plans.
To see if you are eligible and to register, Click here. Enter your MileagePlus number, check the box indicating you are not a robot and click “Start Miles Play”.
As is common with these promotions, offers vary widely from member to member. United may not target some members to play miles, while others will see different rewards and requirements to earn them. We checked around with the TPG team and found various offers.
Examples of United’s Mile Play offers
TPG’s Managing Cruise Editor, Erica Silverstein, holds Premier Silver status. She received an offer to book and take the trip three times to earn 7,000 bonus miles; Each fare must be $100 or more.
Senior points and miles writer Katie Genter is also a Silver member thanks to her Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite status. She has a similar Mile Play offer: If she takes three trips of $100 or more in the next 64 days, she’ll earn 5,800 bonus miles.
Augusta Stone, a writer at Associate Credit Cards, received an offer to earn 6,400 bonus miles by booking and taking a single trip; Rent must be at least $275 to qualify.
Other TPG employees and their loved ones have received the following offers:
- Earn 2,500 bonus miles after you book and take two trips, each with a fare of $100 or more.
- Earn 4,500 bonus miles after you book and take two trips, each with a fare of $100 or more.
- Earn 3,000 bonus miles after you book and take two trips, each with a fare of $250 or more.

Keep in mind that for this promotion to count, trips must generally be booked after you register and before the promotion’s end date. So if you’ve already planned a trip during the miles play window, it won’t qualify (although you can consider canceling and rebooking it). And unless otherwise noted in the terms of your offer, only paid flights marketed and operated by United and United Express will count toward Mile Play Offers.
The best cards to use for United flights
Whether you’re targeted for this promotion or not, you can earn tons of bonus United miles by opening a cobranded credit card. Here’s a look at current welcome bonuses on select United cards:
- United℠ Explorer Card: Earn 60,000 bonus miles after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first three months your account is open.
- United Quest℠ Card: Earn 70,000 bonus miles and 500 Premier qualifying points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first three months your account is open.
- United Club℠ Infinity Card: Earn 90,000 bonus miles after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first three months your account is open.
- United Gateway℠ Card: Earn 30,000 bonus miles after you spend $1,000 on purchases in the first three months your account is open.
- United℠ Business Card: Earn 75,000 bonus miles after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first three months your account is open.
Although cobranded credit cards can help you earn United miles, you can earn even more rewards when you book with one of the best cards for airfare purchases. For example, Platinum Card® from American Express Earn 5 points per dollar spent on airfare booked directly with the airline or through American Express Travel (up to $500,000 of these purchases per calendar year, then 1 point per dollar).
Bottom line
Even if you don’t have any upcoming travel plans with United, it’s worth considering whether it’s time to register and plan a trip. If you have any flights booked that are fully refundable — with United or other airlines — you should consider whether your Miles Play offer is compelling enough for you to cancel and rebook with United.
