New York City’s luxury hotel scene continues to grow — later this year, a new property on the Upper East Side is poised to shake up the well-appointed neighborhood on behalf of well-heeled travelers in search of a high-end hotel.

The Surrey, a Corinthia Hotel, is now accepting reservations for stays from September 1. We’ve had our eye on this property for a while, and it even snagged a spot on our list of the most anticipated hotel openings of 2024.

This property is conveniently located on East 76th Street near the beauty of Central Park and all the shopping opportunities Madison Avenue has to offer. The original Surrey Hotel dates back to 1926, and over the years has been a favorite of the rich, famous and powerful. John F. Prominent figures such as Kennedy and Bette Davis were frequent guests.

Although it’s a historic property with plenty of old-school charm, The Surrey is currently undergoing a complete revitalization and modernization. It will be Corinthia’s only hotel in the US — but it certainly won’t lose any of the luxury amenities or service that the European brand is known for.

Once open, The Surrey will feature 70 guest rooms, 14 private residences and 30 suites, four of which will feature unique layouts and decor inspired by the Central Park Bridge. The interior redesign is being overseen by Martin Brudnizki, the award-winning firm behind other iconic New York hotels such as The Beekman, The Fifth Avenue Hotel and Hotel Fouquet’s New York.

In addition to the rooms, Casa Tua, the on-site restaurant, will excite New York City and Upper East Side residents alike. Casa Tua will be the first New York outpost of the famed Miami-based Italian culinary empire.

Surrey will also host a small but impressive spa designed by Advanced MedAesthetic Partners (better known as AMP). The spa will have two treatment rooms, a steam room, a sauna and a gym.

How to book: Rates start at $1,200 per night for a 366-foot deluxe king room and $2,150 for a junior suite, which measures 506 square feet.

Earlier this year, the Warren Street Hotel, the second New York City hotel from our list of the most exciting openings in 2024, began welcoming guests. Located in Tribeca, the Warren Street Hotel offers a hodgepodge design aesthetic filled with different textures and patterns that contrasts sharply with the sleek, clean lines of The Surrey (and, indeed, with hotels throughout the city).

It goes to show that a city as diverse as New York has room for every type of traveler… especially those with some cash.
