Good news for Chase Sapphire Reserve® cardholders: Chase and Marriott have launched a new status challenge similar to the one offered by the bank and hotel megachain a year ago.

Beginning July 1, Chase Sapphire Reserve holders can register for Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status. It seems that this offer is available to all cardholders. Note that the status is complimentary but only temporary unless you complete three eligible paid nights with Marriott.

Here’s what you need to know about this Cardmember offer, what the status offers and how to keep it for the next 18 months.

Extend your status till February 2026

If you want to keep your Gold status with Marriott Bonvoy, you must complete at least three paid nights during the three months of complimentary status. If you do so, you will retain your Gold status until February 2026.

Any three nights should be enough, but it must be paid for the stay – stays using points or Free night awards do not count. Additionally, these nights must be booked directly with Marriott to qualify. Use of third-party platforms (including the Chase Travel℠ portal) will not count.

Unfortunately, there is no way to complete the additional investment to get a higher status. The only option is to stay for three paid nights and then maintain Gold status. And if you currently have Gold (or higher) status, you are not eligible.

Carefully time your enrollment from when the three-month eligibility window begins when your request is processed. You want to make sure you do this ahead of your qualifying investment(s) but not sooner.

Finally, it’s worth noting that there are other ways to unlock complimentary Marriott Gold status. This Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card This status is inclusive for all cardholders, and it’s a win-win for both Platinum Card® from American Express And The Business Platinum Card® from American Express (registration required). If you have one of those cards, you can get the same status without any investment required.

Bottom line

Gold status is the second lowest level at Marriott Bonvoy. It does not offer suite upgrades or guarantees Free breakfast. However, he can upgrade to a select room, larger room or room with a better view at most Marriott Bonvoy-branded properties. I stayed at the JW Marriott Hotel Rio de Janeiro several years ago as a Marriott Gold member and was upgraded to a large room with an amazing view of Copacabana Beach.

Getting elite status for free is always a nice perk. It’s fairly easy to maintain this status for another year and a half with just three paid nights, assuming it aligns with your travel plans.
