Harbin is making significant progress in preparations for the 9th Asian Winter Games in 2025, which will be the second time the city will host the prestigious event since 1996. Following the successful bid in July 2023, Harbin is set to welcome athletes and visitors from across Asia. Showcase top-level winter sports.
Venue renovation and testing events
Renovation of various locations is underway and is expected to be completed and inspected by October 31, 2024. These venues will host events in six major categories, eleven sub-categories and sixty-four minor categories. The test event is scheduled to begin in early November to ensure that all facilities meet the required standards.
Accommodation and services for participants
A total of thirty-eight hotels have been designated to accommodate athletes, technical officials, media personnel and members of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). These hotels have been selected to provide the highest standard of comfort and convenience for all participants.
The organizing committee is considering the different cultures, religions and dietary habits of the participants from different Asian countries. Food supplies will be available twenty hours a day during the competition to meet these requirements.
Medical services and anti-doping measures
Harbin has selected thirty-one hospitals and established medical service points at each location to ensure the health and safety of all participants. Anti-doping checkpoints have been established for drug testing before and during competition, underscoring the commitment to fair play and integrity in sport.
Volunteer Training and Urban Development
Selection and training of volunteers is already underway. These volunteers will play a crucial role in providing support and assistance throughout the Games.
In addition to preparations for sports events, Harbin is also focusing on urban construction, environmental management and transportation upgrades to enhance the experience for visitors and residents alike.
Official launch and countdown ceremony
To mark the 300-day countdown to the Games, a ceremony was held to unveil the official emblem, theme slogan and sports icon for the Asian Winter Games. The theme slogan, “Winter Dream, Love in Asia,” captures the sense of unity and passion that Harbin aims to bring to the event. An official website has also been launched to provide information and updates about the games.
