La Maison 1888, the signature fine-dining restaurant at the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, received two prestigious awards at last night’s Michelin Guide for Vietnam ceremony. The restaurant was honored with a one star rating and the resort’s Assistant Sommelier, Mr. Toan Nguyen, received the Special Sommelier Award.

La Maison 1888 is the only restaurant in Danang to receive a one star rating and one of only seven in the whole of Vietnam.

“Ever since it opened, La Maison 1888 has strived to reach the pinnacle of culinary excellence. Therefore, receiving this important honor is a major milestone in our journey. Thanks and congratulations to our entire team for this extraordinary achievement. I especially Chef Pierre Thanks to Gagner, whose vision, skill and expertise have guided our success, we couldn’t be more proud, and this honor truly establishes our resort as a dining destination.” said Seif Hamdi, General Manager of InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort.

La Maison 1888, housed in a captivating French Indochina-style mansion designed by renowned architect and interior designer Bill Bensley, was the first establishment in Vietnam led by a Michelin-starred chef, initially Michel Roux and later Pierre Gagner. The cuisine, distinctly French in flavor yet full of unique Vietnamese influences, offers a one-of-a-kind epicurean experience in Vietnam. This July, La Maison 1888 will honor Pierre Gagner with a special celebratory MICHELIN menu showcasing some of his favorite dishes.

Chef de cuisine Florian Stein, who previously enjoyed dining at the famous Le Chambard restaurant in Alsace, France, leads the culinary direction at La Maison 1888 alongside Gagner. Known for his creativity, skill and precision, Chef Stein ensures that every gastronomic experience at La Maison 1888 is exceptional. Each meal is paired with an inspired selection of wines curated by Beverage Manager and Sommelier Jimmy Chang. The restaurant’s wine cellar, awarded the Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator for seven consecutive years, features many rare vintages unavailable elsewhere in the country.

Toan Nguyen, who has worked as an assistant sommelier for a year, received one of three special awards from MICHELIN, highlighting his young talent.

La Maison 1888 has received the prestigious MICHELIN star, the latest addition to its impressive list of accolades. For the past 11 years, this fine-dining institution has raised gastronomic standards in Vietnam. Recognized by CNN as “One of the Top 10 Most Beautiful Restaurants in the World” by Architectural Digest and “The World’s Leading Fine Dining Hotel Restaurant” by the World Travel Awards. His reputation continues to grow.

Since its inception in 1900, the Michelin Guide has celebrated the world’s best restaurants based on five key criteria: personality of the chef’s cuisine, harmony of flavors, mastery of cooking techniques, quality of ingredients and consistency over time and throughout the menu. The opening for Danang follows the 2023 launches for Michelin Guide Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, highlighting Vietnam’s growing prominence on the global gastronomic stage.
