I would love to provide a more in-depth review of my recent investment Hotel Hermitage Monte-Carlo But alas, my visit was too short before attending the ILTM Cannes Luxury Travel Conference. But here goes… Established in the early 1900s, this Belle Époque style hotel was designed by architect Nicolas Marquette, with input from Gustave Eiffel (creator of the Eiffel Tower). It enjoys an illustrious history and has hosted a wealth of discerning guests over the years, from celebrities to royalty.
Hotel Monte-Carlo is part of the Société des Bains de Mer (SBM), a prestigious luxury hospitality and entertainment group based in Monaco that owns and operates several hotels and other entertainment facilities, including the Hotel de Paris Monte-Carlo, Casino de does Monte-Carlo and Thermes Marine Monte-Carlo.
Welcome
I was greeted at Nice Cote d’Azur airport and escorted to the hotel before being warmly greeted by Danny on arrival, while a porter looked after my luggage. Check-in was quick and Danny personally showed me to my room.
On our way to the room, we passed Limune Restaurant, perfect for a light lunch or afternoon tea.
The corridor was decorated with Christmas trees as we also passed the entrance to the hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant Pavillon.
room
I stayed in room 739, one of ‘Los Apartamentos’ on the top floor of one of the historic wings of the hotel. It consists of an entrance hall surrounded by neoclassical half-moon console tables. To the right is the large bedroom with corniced ceiling and neutral palette. The bed is as wide as it is long and the room, bathed in sunlight on my arrival, enjoys stunning harbor views of Port Hercules and the Mediterranean Sea, where you can marvel at the array of yachts and superyachts.
An iHome clock radio with digital intercom system and wireless charging can be found on either side of the bed. In-room reading material comes in the form of a hard-back Assolin Monte Carlo coffee table book and a copy of the Monte Carlo Society magazine.
The unit below has a large TV and minibar, as well as a desk area, additional intercom system and EOH Malongo coffee machine, a separate dressing table, Dyson hair dryer and stools and additional seating. I noticed that there is also a connecting doorway which means that this room can be interconnected with neighboring rooms to make it suitable for families.
A walk-in closet with Hotel Hermitage-branded robes, umbrellas and yoga mats, as well as a safe and laundry bags is located just outside the entrance.
the bathroom
To the left of the entrance is the bathroom, with a luxurious free-standing oval bathtub taking center stage. There is also a walk-in rainfall shower with additional jets from the wall, twin basins and WC and bidet.
On display is a simple but attractive Versace houseplant and a plentiful supply of Aqua di Parma toiletries.
Everything you need to plan your trip in 2024
facilities
Unfortunately my stay was too short to do justice to the hotel’s many amenities, including five restaurants and of course the Thermes Marine Monte-Carlo Wellness Center.
We dined at nearby La Mome Monte Carlo, the latest addition to the La Mome group started by twin brothers Ugo and Antoine Lecorche. A few months earlier, it was the restaurant of choice for Cristiano Ronaldo – and partner Georgina Rodriguez – when he was visiting Monaco to attend the draw for the league stage of the UEFA Champions League.
This lively restaurant serves Mediterranean-inspired dishes prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients that highlight regional flavors, and a bar area that serves expertly crafted signature cocktails.
As part of our media dinner, we indulged in a delectable array of starters – creamy hummus piquillo, perfectly balanced tuna tartare with vegetables, truffled arancini, beef tartare and stracciatella cream, and a vibrant succinate salad with mustard vinaigrette and truffle. Parmesan mains include black Angus tagliata served with a peppery rocket salad, an exceptionally tasty seared tuna a la plancha, gnocchi with tomatoes and basil (pictured) and a tempting assortment of side dishes.
For dessert, there was a selection of waffles with toppings, tiramisu and unbelievably delicious cookies that were absolutely to die for!
location
Hotel Hermitage is approximately 25 kilometers (30 minutes) from Nice International Airport, enjoys a central location in the heart of Monte Carlo and overlooks Port Hercules and the Mediterranean Sea.
It is just steps away from the famous Casino de Monte-Carlo where Christmas is celebrated with unparalleled pomp and extravagance!
Another nice touch
They really know how to make you feel special at the hotel. In addition to having fresh flowers in the room, there was a gift from the Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer upon arrival – a beautiful Hotel Hermitage candle and wine bottle stopper. Cakes and mandarins were delivered to my room an hour after I arrived and there was also a turndown service.
expenses
Superior Queen Rooms start at 525 Euros per night.
The Princely Diamond Suite starts at 22,000 euros per night.
The best bit
Unfortunately I didn’t have enough time to get to know the hotel well so it’s hard to pick what I liked the most, but the majestic architecture, the decor and the quality of the fixtures and fittings really stood out. My room was spotless, spacious and enjoyed a fabulous view of the harbor and Prince’s Palace of Monaco.
final judgment
Hotel Hermitage is a superb example of luxury done well. Everything is finished with attention to detail. The attitude and attentiveness of the staff is amazing – every team member I met in the corridor, regardless of their role, made eye contact and smiled. This level of care reflects the hotel’s commitment to excellence and the importance it places on impeccable training.
