It’s a good day for World of Hyatt members, as the Chicago-based hotel chain takes another step forward in expanding its all-inclusive portfolio.
Hyatt and Grupo Pineiro, owner of Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts, have officially signed their partnership after announcing the joint venture earlier this year. The long-term strategic venture, based in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, will oversee the Bahia Principe-branded properties.
This exciting development will add 22 resorts and nearly 12,000 rooms to Hyatt’s growing portfolio. Bahia Principe hotels and resorts are spread across Spain, Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Mexico. The development will also grow Hyatt’s all-inclusive portfolio by around 30%.
Currently, Hyatt has more than 1,300 properties in its portfolio, a modest offering compared to Marriott and Hilton, which have about 9,100 properties compared to 8,000 properties respectively.
With the signing of this deal, we will finally see Bahia Principe properties join the World of Hyatt loyalty program, which allows members to earn and redeem points while using their elite status benefits. Currently, no timeline has been given for this integration. But, hopefully, it will happen in 2025 without any delay.
Bahia Principe has a strong European customer base thanks to its properties in the Canary Islands, making it a popular choice for those seeking an all-inclusive stay. Thanks to its partnership with Hyatt, we can expect its properties in Mexico and the Caribbean to grow in popularity, especially among those looking to earn and redeem Hyatt rewards.

Hyatt has been gradually building its inclusive portfolio since 2013 by creating the brands Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara. Most recently, in 2021, Hyatt acquired Apple Leisure Group, which will add more than 140 properties across 10 brands to Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection by the end of this year.

Hyatt’s pace of expanding its portfolio, especially in the all-inclusive space, isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Hyatt is also in talks with Playa Hotels & Resorts, a large operator of all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico, to acquire its properties and strengthen its leadership in the space.
All-inclusive properties offer value and convenience, especially for families, and even more so when points are redeemed for stays. Standard rooms at Hyatt all-inclusive resorts range from 12,000 points per night for off-peak Category A properties to 58,000 points per night for peak Category F rooms.
It remains to be seen which category the Bahia Principe properties may fall into.

The bottom line
Hyatt’s joint venture with Grupo PiƱero will allow them to manage all Bahia Principe all-inclusive resorts. This strategic move will add 22 properties across Spain, Mexico and the Caribbean. Hopefully, in 2025 we will know how the properties will be integrated into the World of Hyatt and whether there are attractive earning and redeeming options.
