No matter what you’re buying for the home or the holidays, there’s a perfect shot you can get on Amazon. Believe it or not, there is a popular way to use credit card points on Amazon orders.

In general, we don’t really recommend using your points that way because you typically get less than 1 cent per point in value, which isn’t a good use of points. However, there are exceptions to every ‘rule’ and one of them is when you can get a discount for using a small number of points on your Amazon order.

We often talk about a version of this deal that can save you up to 50% on your Amazon order using as few as your Amex Membership Rewards points, but if you have a card that earns Chase Ultimate Rewards points, you’ll be able to save. Even by using some of those points on Amazon, through an offer targeted to certain Chase cardholders.

The version of this offer that I was recently targeted for allowed me to save 30% on my Amazon order if I used at least 500 Chase Ultimate Rewards points, up to a maximum savings of $15.

However, I’ve heard of other offers that offer up to 50% off with the same 500-point minimum redemption and the same $15 cap, though those details may change over time and likely roll out different targeted offers.

Once you’ve done that, I recommend selecting “Off” in the “Apply by default” points option so you don’t accidentally use points for your next order. Typically, you get 8/10 cents of value per redeemed Chase point for Amazon, which is much less than most other uses, so we don’t recommend this on an ongoing basis in most situations.

Sometimes it takes a day or so to be able to add promos after linking your account, so it’s worth checking back to see if you can. Add promo to redeem Chase Points If it doesn’t work at first on items shipped and sold by Amazon a day after you link your account.
