Last night, Disney Cruise Line named its newest ship, the 4,000-passenger Disney Treasure, in a glittering ceremony at Manhattan’s Pier 66, complete with a drone show and a live performance by Jordin Sparks singing the ship’s national anthem. Today, TPG got a sneak preview of the ship and tried out its highly anticipated new spaces, including the Haunted Mansion Bar and Plaza de Coco Restaurant.

Disney Treasure shares the same layout as her sister ship, Disney Wish, but her interiors have unique decor and theming. The ship is dedicated to adventure and exploration, and some of its signature bars are inspired by iconic Disney theme park attractions.

Here, we give you a first look inside Disney’s newest cruise ship with photos from our ship tour. Stay tuned — TPG will be reporting from the actual trip in December when we experience the locations under full activation.

First impression

Grand Hall. Erica Silverstein/The Points Guy

The Grand Hall of Disney Treasures evokes the palaces of Africa and Asia, with a not-so-subtle nod to Disney’s “Aladdin.” The central carpet features a fountain motif, and an elaborate chandelier pays homage to the six current ships in the Disney Cruise Line fleet.

In addition to being everyone’s first impression of the ship after boarding, the Grand Hall is the site of a variety of performances, including live music and storytelling by new characters, Coriander and Sage. (They will also present after-hours stories for adults.)

From the Grand Hall, guests can head out in several directions to find adventure aboard Disney Treasures.

Disney Treasure Restaurants

Plaza de Coco

Plaza de Coco is a Mexican-inspired restaurant based on the movie “Coco” and is the ship’s newest addition to the inclusive dining rotation. The space is warm and inviting with rich colors, and the hallway leading to the venue sets the tone for the meal, complete with family photos and ofrendas.

The dining experience here will include live mariachi music and dancing by characters from the movie “Coco,” with two separate shows as guests dine here twice during the weeklong cruise. The first show has a family theme, while the second one celebrates Día de los Muertos.

The world of Marvel

This The Worlds of Marvel restaurant debuted on Disney’s Wish and Return on Treasure. The venue will feature a show similar to Wish, “Quantum Encounter,” as well as another “Guardians of the Galaxy” show called “Marvel Celebration of Heroes: Groot Remix.”

We caught a glimpse of the new show, which is sure to bring all the good vibes with an adorable Groot. Between scenes, test your knowledge with superhero trivia.

Desserts of Jumbeaux

Jumbeaux’s Sweets is a new ice cream parlor and candy shop inspired by Jumbeaux’s Cafe in the movie “Zootopia”. You can order all kinds of ice cream, sundaes in souvenir containers and many other items.

While you’re here, look out for lemmings.

Disney Treasure Bar

Skipper Society

Disney Treasures is introducing a handful of new, immersive bars with fun Disney themes. Skipper Society is inspired by Disney’s Jungle Cruise ride and its wise skippers.

Expect lots of bad words and drinks with a jungle theme. For breakfast, try waffles drizzled with Nutella.

Periscope Pub

Periscope Pub takes its theme from Jules Verne’s “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea” (and Disney’s 1954 movie version of the book and theme park attraction).

The bar is the place to order craft beer, as well as additional pub food like burgers or soft pretzels. Don’t forget to look up because you never know what creatures will be swimming overhead.

Haunted Mansion Parlor

The Haunted Mansion Parlor at Disney Treasures takes a nautical route to the eerie-yet-beloved Haunted Mansion theme park attraction.

Barr’s show, complete with the story of a murder at sea, unfolds in five-minute increments over a 1.5-hour period. Families are welcome to enjoy the spooky atmosphere and fun sodas and mocktails until 9pm when the space becomes adults only.

Skate Cat Lounge

Near the ship’s Grand Hall, the Skate Cat Lounge is inspired by Disney’s “The Aristocats” animated film.

It’s a charming place to enjoy some jazz piano and cocktails served in glasses with cat faces. Signature drinks include tea-themed cocktails.

Other bars on board include Hei Hei Cafe and Jade Cricket Cafe.

Disney Treasure’s Cabin

Disney Treasure will have 1,256 cabins and suites ranging from windowless inside cabins to two-story suites in the ship’s Fox Funnel. The cabin design will incorporate scenes from Disney movies such as “Aladdin,” “Pocahontas,” “Finding Nemo,” “Up,” “Luca” and “Encanto.”

The Concierge Suites will nod to “The Lion King,” while the four Royal Suites pay homage to the tigers seen in “The Jungle Book” and “Aladdin.”

The Royal Suites are amazing two-story suites with a downstairs living area and upstairs sleeping area, plus a large balcony with an infinity hot tub.

The most elaborate suite on the ship will be the two-story Tomorrow Tower Suite. The nearly 2,000-square-foot, multi-room suite features a futuristic design inspired by Epcot and can sleep eight guests. Due to its location in the ship’s Fox Funnel, it does not come with a private balcony.

public spaces

Pool Deck and Aquamouse

Pool deck. Erica Silverstein/The Points Guy

Disney Treasure’s pool deck isn’t just a watery playground, perfect for cooling off on hot days. It’s also the location for Disney’s signature deck parties, including the Pirate Night Show with fireworks.

Aquamouse. Erica Silverstein/The Points Guy

Water Ride Aquamouse returns to Disney Treasures with a new show, the third in the rotation of animated shorts. The animation, called “Curse of the Golden Egg,” will follow Mickey and Minnie as they search for a lost treasure inside an ancient temple.

Toy Story Splash Zone. Erica Silverstein/The Points Guy

Babies in diapers will have a blast in the Toy Story-themed splash area; I’m sure some adults will be tempted to play here too.

Oceaneer Club. Erica Silverstein/The Points Guy

Disney’s Oceaneer Club is one of the most creative kids’ clubs in the cruise industry, and Disney Treasure’s complimentary youth amenities are no exception. Like the Disney Wish, kids (and adults) can enter the club via a slide from the Grand Hall.

Inside, a warren of adorable themed rooms offers a range of programming, from the Imagining Lab to Marvel Academy and Fairytale Hall. Kids can design theme park rides and test them in ride simulators or design their own superhero suits.

Adults can sample the fun during open house hours; Otherwise, the Oceaneer Club is just kids.

It is a small world nursery. Erica Silverstein/The Points Guy

Parents can drop off infants and toddlers at It’s a Small World Nursery for supervised naps and playtime for an hourly fee.

Sarabi is a two-story activity space on board with a “Lion King” theme.

A Broadway-style show

The set of “Moana”. Erica Silverstein/The Points Guy

Disney Treasures will debut “Disney’s The Tale of Moana” as its new Broadway-style musical. We got a glimpse of Act 1, and the set, puppets, costumes and choreography are breathtaking. The cast is one of the most diverse that Disney has ever done on a cruise ship, and Disney ensured that cultural consultants of Hawaiian and Samoan descent were involved in the selection of music and choreography.

Other shows on the ship will be “See the Adventure” and “Beauty and the Beast.”

Disney’s Treasure departs on her maiden voyage on December 21, and will spend her maiden voyage alternating weeks in the Eastern and Western Caribbean. Families and cruisers of all ages will love this ship for its warm, welcoming decor and cleverly themed spaces.
